Ouray BOE Updates

At its regular meeting on Tuesday, October 29, the Ouray School District R-1 Board of Education approved several important action items summarized below.

School Academic Calendar Revision

The Board approved a revised 2024-2025 Academic calendar. The change supports the elementary staff to attend a biennial CCIRA Conference to support reading instruction. Specifically, there will be no school for elementary students (grades K through 4) on February 5-7, 2025, so that the entire elementary team may attend this important conference. Secondary English teachers and the elementary principal will also attend. Voyager has agreed to provide space for childcare needs during these days.

Resolution in Opposition of Amendment 80

The Board adopted a resolution opposing Amendment 80 that is on this fall's ballot. The board is in support of school choice, which is currently supported by state law, as well as the state's constitutional commitment to public education.

Quarterly Financial Report

The Board also accepted a new quarterly financial report marking a revision to financial reporting. The primary driver of the change was to increase the readability of the financial report. The new format meets statutory requirements of a quarterly timeframe, percentages to budget, and comparisons to the previous year's quarter. Rather than provide all of the lines of the budget, the new report focuses on types of revenue and expenditure within each fund and includes graphs, making it much more readable for the board and the general public. The Board is also provided copies of the quarter's bank statements for transparency.
