Ouray elementary school has been offering the familiar social emotional learning and bully prevention curriculum for several years. Last spring a decision was made to expand that learning opportunity to our students in grades 5th - 8th. This is a sequential social emotional curriculum that hits a variety of common middle school topics. The first six weeks, Mr. Cole will be focusing on bully prevention units. Following the initial bully prevention rollout, the next units align with middle school clan goals and our portrait of a learner characteristics. The primary focus will be on managing peer relationships, social conflict, and developing a positive sense of self. These lessons will be taught by the students' homeroom teacher and reinforced throughout their day by other staff and during school community events. We are excited to introduce Second Step to our students and believe the additional education will continue helping us build a strong, supportive learning environment.
If you have any questions about the curriculum feel free to contact our Second Step coordinator, Mr. Cole, at 970-325-4505.
Mr. Nelson
