Gaggle is an internet safety tool employed by Ouray School. The system is used to protect the health and safety of students and responses will be focused on education.
How it works...
Gaggle does three things to protect students.
- Content Analysis for Google Mail and Google Docs and flags concerning content.
- Expert Review from Gaggle safety experts to determine the level of severity.
- Rapid Response notification and/or calls depending on the severity of the concern.
What it looks for...
Gaggle and their experts will classify concerns into three areas.
- Violations. Vulgar language and poor digital citizenship are responded to with an email to the student and a notification to select staff.
- Questionable Content. Some questionable content is school curriculum-related, such as the content found in papers written about the Holocaust. These can still be flagged but are quickly identified as age and school appropriate. Other questionable content, however, may include concerning student situations but do not include specific times, places, or plans. An email is sent to key staff members for follow-up with the student.
- Possible Student Situation. Student concerns that are immediate threats to the safety of self or others and have specifics about time and place are urgent matters. This level of response is an immediate phone call to key contacts.
For questions or comments, please feel free to contact a school counselor or administator.
