Ouray School is taking steps to protect its most vulnerable populations - student groups who are not old enough for the COVID-19 vaccine. The vaccine remains the best defense against the virus and will be available to Ouray students ages 5 to 11 in the first half of November.
School Actions.
In the meantime, Ouray School is adding the following behavioral measures to daily routines.
- increased diligence in mask-wearing in common spaces and classrooms;
- multi-layer mask requirements: "a buff is not enough";
- mask and hand sanitizing stations at all entrances;
- designated spaced seating in the cafeteria;
- student ownership of cleaning spaces, particularly in shared enrichment class spaces;
- limited cross-cohort activities and events;
- weekly COVID-19 testing offered to all students and staff regardless of vaccination status;
- playground activity restrictions, including numbers in the gaga ball pit and large swing;
- student referrals to the office for minor symptoms (cough, sore throat, etc.)
Parent Requested Actions.
Ouray School is asking parents to participate in the following ways.
- ensure that all students have a high-quality, dual-layer mask: a buff is not enough;
- continue to keep students home when sick;
- follow return-to-school protocols when illness extends past 48 hours to include a negative Covid-19 test from county health;
- partner with the school for absences to ensure that students have the supports they need to be successful;
