The national and state news on school opening for the fall of 2021 can be difficult to listen to. There are current concerns regarding the COVID-19 Delta variant and transmission between vaccinated individuals. Ouray County residents have several advantages in school operation that those from inner city and metropolitan areas do not.
- Small grade levels and small class sizes
- Very little interaction between learning groups
- High adult and student vaccination levels
- History of low (to zero) in-school transmission
This said, Ouray School strongly recommends that all students and adults who are eligible for the vaccine get vaccinated before the start of school. We understand that not all students are eligible, and the school is working in the coming week to revise our draft plans for starting school. Please stay tuned for final guidance in the weeks ahead.
